A full immersive experience into all of the key aspects of the exciting sport of Saltwater Fly Fishing, workshops are a great option for individuals, couples, families, and small groups to learn and fish together. Enjoy free time during the Workshop relaxing and exploring the area attractions, restaurants and shops. Make it a get-away: book the dates that fit best with your schedule. Includes accommodations upon request in one of the areas hotels or lodges.
I conduct my Workshops over the equivalent of 3 days (10 to 15 hours of education and skills development - classroom and field work - and a full day guided lesson). The agenda can be customized according to your skill level and goals, and the schedule of sessions can be adjusted to fit the weather and your travel plans. Below is a sample agenda:
Day 1 - Morning:
For our first couple of sessions we will begin with some casting outside followed by a "classroom" inside.
- Session #1 (2 hours): fly casting warm-up (review of fundamentals, and diagnostics)
- Session #2 (1 hour): saltwater fly fishing gear and fly selection
- Session #3 (1 hour): introduction to species, weather and water
Day 1 - Afternoon:
After a break for lunch we will meet up for a couple of outdoor casting sessions broken up by a classroom session. Once our sessions are done you can relax, grab a nice dinner, and rest up for a fun Day 2.
- Session #4 (2 hours): saltwater quick cast and line management
- Session #5 (1 hour): knots for saltwater rigging
- Session #6 (2 hours): wind techniques
Day 2 - Morning & Early Afternoon:
After breakfast we meet in the casting field to put it all together and build on our casting skills and fishing knowledge, then followed by lunch and a choice of fly tying or a quick wade fishing session. I make this a short day so that you can relax and have the rest of the day to whatever you would like.
- Session #7 (2 hours): presentation and fishing drills
- Session #8 (2 hours): saltwater fly tying
- Session #9 (2 hours): wade fishing sampler on-the-water
Day 3 - All Day:
This is it! The day we have been working towards ... and opportunity to put into play the skills you have been learning and practicing. How exciting!
- Session #10 (7 to 9 hours): full day guided lesson on a technical poling skiff

- NOTE: Having less than optimal conditions are a fact of saltwater fly fishing. Unless the conditions are hazardous, fishing can still be productive. I have many locations that optimize marginal conditions - sight casting can still happen in windy/cloudy/rainy/dirty water ... I know, I fish in these conditions and have still caught fish. Cancellations by clients because of less than perfect conditions fall under the same policies as stated above.
- NOTE: Your safety is my priority. If the weather/water conditions are unsafe and I make the decision to cancel I will reschedule you with no penalty. If all rescheduling options are unsatisfactory I will refund your monies paid.
